Shooting Stars

Fields of wheat endlessly
Strange noises in the night
The storm roars far away
Lightning flashing across the sky

I’m here and waiting
Leaning on the still hot sheet metal of my blue car
Rocked by the song of a solitary cricket
I wish my eyes would pass through the clouds

Milky Way, I want to see you
Show me your famous meteor shower
The wonderful Perseids
I need to escape and feel alive

I’ve come for the rain of shooting stars
Now raindrops come to wet my forearms
No tears on my cheeks
There will always be a night to get lost on the starlit sky
